Troy Zahn

Troy Zahn, 55, of McKenzie, passed away March 24, 2024, at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Bismarck Funeral Home.  Family will be receiving guests one hour prior to the service.

Troy David Zahn was born November 6, 1968 to Marilyn and Douglas Zahn in Bismarck, ND.  He grew up in McKenzie where he attended grade school and then went to Bismarck Century High School.

In 1994 he met Cathy and they were married during the Sturgis rally 8/10/02.  Together they had a son, Harley David, who was the light and love of his life.  Together they had many adventures, such as letting Harley drive the car in the winter when he was 18 months and they went into a snow bank and got stuck.

He was a very proud member of the Operating Engineer Local 49 for 25 years working on various heavy equipment.  His greatest love of working was the crane operation.

In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, rottweilers and Harley Davidson motorcycles.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cathy; daughter, Jennifer (Cody); three grandsons, Kaden, Levi and Huntly;  his sister, Pam (Tom) Leonard; brother, Todd (Julia) Zahn; in-laws, Lori (Brian) Penor and Rick (Paula) Penor; mother-in-law, Carol Tishmack; 4 nephews and 3 nieces, Kane Zahn, Cole Beck Fox, Rhiannon Penor, Carolee (Jake) Nagel, Jolene Penor, Erick (Ayrica) Penor and Jason Penor; and three spoiled rottweilers, Spirit, Bear and Mattie.

He was preceded in death by his loving son, Harley; parents Doug and Marilyn; brother, Craig Zahn; nephew, Josh Leonard; fathers-in-law, Woody Penor and Jim Tishmack.

Cathy and family: So sorry to hear of Troy’s passing. I spent many fun days growing up with him and the rest of the family as we are cousins and he was a good guy. He will be missed. God Bless

Oh Cathy…this hurt my heart. I know we don’t see much of eachother anymore but you both have and will always hold a special place in my heart. Troy was a beautiful soul, even when he was grumpy. Please know that my thoughts are with you during this time and the days to follow.

Sorry to hear this cathy my heart goes out to you and your family.. i didnt hear about beans passing in time to come there.. and only seen him acouple times since i moved from bis but i think of him every time i go by your house. I had alot of fun with beans and boyd hunting ducks and getting all messed up with him and butz and farmer… im sorry he got taken but maybe he can see his son finally i know he would love that..thinkin of you guys. Cathy.- I can’t even comprehend your loss. All I can say is that I’m so very sorry. I always loved bantering with Troy – he was lively and a wonderful soul. His passion for the dogs, cycles, and especially for you always shown through. My heart and love go out to you.
