RUTH EDINGER WALTH

Ruth Edinger Walth, 97, Bismarck, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Baptist Health Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Bismarck Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ruth was born April 9, 1922 on the family farm south of Harvey, ND to David and Pauline (Weltz) Schimke. She was raised on the farm and went to country school. In 1943 she moved to Harvey with her parents and worked at the Harvey Bakery until June 4, 1944 when she married Calvin Edinger. They made their home on the Edinger family farm of rural Cathay where they resided for 43 years. They attended Germantown Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church in Fessenden, where she was involved in many church activities. In 1987 they retired and moved to Bismarck and joined the Bismarck Baptist Church. Ruth belonged to Women’s Ministries, something that was close to her heart.

She also belonged to the Machine Knitters Club, something she enjoyed very much. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all very special to her, especially her three grandsons, who all served their country.

Calvin passed away April 30, 2003 after a long siege of Alzheimer’s Disease. On August 3, 2005 she married Reuben Walth. He died October 9, 2011.

She is survived by her daughters Gale (Stan) Sjol, Layton, UT and Jane (Curt) Ekren, Rugby, ND; son, Mark (Jill) Edinger, Carrington, ND; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; stepson, Bruce (Sharon) Walth, Bismarck; step-daughter-in-law, Betty Walth, Kandiyohi, MN; brother-in-law, Clarence Walth, California and sister-in-law, Roselyn Wolff, Houston, TX; and 16 step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Calvin and Reuben, son, Scott Edinger; brothers, William, Emanuel and Herbert Schimke; sisters, Ida Goll, Hilda Winter, Leona Goll, Emma Nutz, Edna Nutz, Theresa Lieshner, Erna Zoller, Alma Winter, Linda Tiede and Viola Siebold; and one stepson, Dale Walth.
