Loretta Jantzer, 93, of Bismarck, passed away early Sunday morning on June 26, 2022.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck.  Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. A livestream of the service will be available at www.corpuschristibismarck.com

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a Rosary and Vigil service at 7:00 PM.

Loretta Mae Jantzer was born in Mandan, ND to Joseph and Helen (Landeis) Steiner on August 2, 1928.  She attended St. Joseph’s grade school and went on to graduate from Mandan High School in 1947.  She was employed as a secretary to the superintendent of schools prior to her marriage.

On December 30, 1950, she married Giles Jantzer, her loving and caring husband for 66 years.  Giles passed away in 2017.

Loretta was a stay-at-home mom for her four children, Mark, Rita, Joel, and Joan from 1951 to the early 70’s.  In addition to the neighborhood coffee visits with the Ryan Drive women, Loretta belonged to a homemaker’s club, and a bridge club.  She volunteered to be a den mother when Mark was a cub scout.  Loretta worked at the Bismarck Telco Federal Credit Union as a receptionist/secretary for over 20 years working with Giles, who was the treasurer.

Loretta loved her church family at Corpus Christi.  She and Giles taught CCD and were ushers for many years.  Attending daily mass and praying the Rosary up to her last days brought her comfort and peace.

Being together as family was important to Loretta.  She loved having get togethers for holidays, or summer cookouts.  She was known to make dozens of cookies at Christmas and Easter bread to share with her family and friends.  Loretta loved to decorate her home for every holiday, especially Christmas.  In January she would display her snowman collection.

She attended the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony for years with Giles and continued to until two years ago with her friends Kathe and Don Hall.  Loretta was an avid reader all her life, and especially enjoyed Danielle Steele.  When her eyes could no longer read print, she enjoyed listening to books on tape.

Loretta had the opportunity to travel to Europe twice with her brothers, Fr. Luke, and Fr. Urban and her daughters.  They toured through several countries including Italy, Spain, and France.

Loretta and Giles always had time for their grandchildren, attending many of the activities when they were younger and when great-grandchildren arrived, their presence was felt, even when they could no longer physically attend.

Loretta will be deeply missed, but her life will be remembered in the years to come by her children, Mark (Mary) Jantzer, Minot, ND, Rita Seiler, Mandan, ND, Joel (Pam) Jantzer, Kansas City, KS, and Joan (Mike) Hall, Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Seth (Andrea) Seiler, Caleb (Fiancée, Katerina), Julie (Chris) Ward, John (Jessica) Jantzer, Jacob (Amanda) Jantzer, and Helen (Chad) Askim, Erica (Cliff) Naylor and Sierra Hall; great-grandchildren, Phillip and Nina Seiler, Luna Seiler, Giles and Ivan Askim, Autumn and Joel Jantzer, Griffin and Titus Jantzer, Max and Leo Jantzer, and Vivian Jantzer; her brother, Richard (Lavonne) Steiner and Giles’s sister, Sr. Michaeleen Jantzer.  She will also be missed by her nieces, Jeanne Steiner, and Christine Wiese; and nephew, Steve Steiner.  They always had a special place in Loretta’s life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Giles; her parents; her brothers, Fr. Luke Steiner, and Fr. Urban Steiner; grandson, Eric Jantzer; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.

Memorials may be given to the Bismarck Mandan Symphony Orchestra in memory of Loretta.
