Lenore Schmidt

Lenore Louise (Baumgarten) Schmidt born January 18, 1924, to Richard and Louise (Munder) Baumgarten on a farm 3 ½ miles from Judson, North Dakota the last of 6 children. She joined her Lord in heaven on May 28, 2020.  She was confirmed at the Friedens Evangelical church (now the Peace Church) in 1937. She was educated in the Mandan and Judson school systems and graduated from New Salem High in 1940.  After graduation, she did some housework and childcare for others.  She worked at Cass Clay Creamery wrapping butter and also did a short stint teaching in a country school.

On April 9, 1944 she married her high school sweetheart, Forrest Schmidt.  Lenore enjoyed helping her husband on the farm and raising her 4 girls.  Feeding the orphaned lambs was one of her favorite things to do besides baking the best caramel rolls this side of heaven.  She also enjoyed traveling to see her brothers-in-law in California, Virginia and her children in Chicago, Milwaukee and South Dakota.  She wheedled a mean crochet hook winning many grand prizes at different county and state fairs.  All this in addition to embroidery and reading.

She is survived by her 4 daughters, Mildred Henry, Wauwatosa, WI, Sharon (Arthur) Reyes, Frankfort, IL, Eleanor Sippel, Groton, South Dakota and Peggy (John) Christensen, Rapid City, South Dakota, 1 brother-in-law, Wayne (Joyce) Schmidt, Durham, North Carolina, 11 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 10 great, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, parents, 1 brother, 4 sisters, 2 sisters-in-law, 7 brothers-in-law, 2 sons-in-law, 9 nephews, 2 nieces and special friends, Martha Kunkel and Nina Filibeck.

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to Versiti/Threads of Compassion 638 N. 18th St. Milwaukee, WI 53233, or The Harmony Singers, c/o M. Henry, 735 N, 109th St., Wauwatosa, WI 53226 or the charity of your choice.

Services will take place at Zion Lutheran Church, New Salem, on Friday, June 5, 2020, at 11:00 a.m..  Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the start of the service.
