Larry Duane Lang, 78, Bismarck, passed away March 4, 2023.  Memorial services will be on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck.  Visitation will be on Sunday, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Larry was born in Jamestown, ND on November 20, 1944, to Gotthielf and Emma Lang. Larry was baptized on March 18, 1945.

Larry confessed his father in Jesus through the Rite of Confirmation in 1958 at St. John Evangelical.  Larry married Diane Dewald on July 16, 1966. They lived in Dawson where they raised four children: David, Barbara, Steven and Dale.

Larry went to Hanson’s Mechanical Trade School and graduated in May 1962. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and Northern Improvement Construction. In 1963 he started at Peavey Company owned by Cecil Billington for seven years until EJ Wentz purchased the Dawson and Tappen elevators on March 1, 1971.  Upon closing, he went to work at Maple Valley Farmers Elevator in Ellendale for one year. He then joined his son Steven, at ADM/Benson Quinn, working for 17 years until his retirement. After retirement Larry and Diane spent winters in Mesa, AZ with classmates and friends.

Larry loved to visit with everyone whether he knew you or not. He was always up for “a good visit”. To say Larry knew a little bit about everything was an understatement.  Weather, wheat prices, farming, hunting, fishing, and trapping furbearers.  He had a special gift for predicting weather patterns.

He loved to spend time with family and hunting and fishing. His passions were catching Northern Pike, deer hunting, the spring goose migration, his beloved apple trees, and bird watching.

He loved to spend time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He especially had a soft spot for his granddaughters and great granddaughter.  He would always tell them he loved them when they left.

Larry passed away peacefully on Saturday March 4, 2023, at home surrounded by a loving family at the age of 78.

Larry is survived by his wife, Diane. His children David (Debbie) Lang, Barbara Lang, Dale (Jennifer) Lang, daughter-in-law Christie Lang, and one brother, Dennis Lang. His grandchildren: Jeremiah Lang, Jon (Courtney Kautzman) Lang, Nicholas (Sharra) Lang, Leyton (Erika Ochsner) Lang, Landon (Halle Vaneberg) Lang, Lennon, Hollis, and Jagger Lang. Great grandchildren Keegan, Khloe, and Rogan Lang.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Gotthielf and Emma Lang, brothers Leonard Lang, Wayne Lang, infant brothers, Dale and Arthur Lang, his sisters Beverly Rudolph and Loretta Iszler, and his son, Steven Lang.

Larry was a kind, hardworking, God-fearing, family man that will be missed greatly by his family and friends.  He left behind a legacy of knowledge that will be passed down for generations to come.

“He was always up for “a good visit”   Over the years Larry and I attended several of our spouse’s high school classmate unions, etc. At those gatherings Larry was always available for a good side discussion … let’s say… to help past the time….. I will miss those chats with Larry at future gatherings.

Sorry for your Loss. Praying for the family

Rest in Peace Larry. Thank you for the education and the memories.
