Janice Leona Letteer, 87, of Bismarck ND, passed away, on Monday, April 4th, 2022, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.

Janice was born on April 12th, 1934, to Ted and Regina Koppelman in Great Bend, ND. She was raised in the Breckenridge/Wahpeton area and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1952. She attended St. Francis School of Nursing graduating in 1955.  On June 30, 1956, Jan married Richard Letteer in Breckenridge, MN.  After working a short time at the St. Francis Hospital, they moved to Bismarck, ND in 1957, where she continued her nursing career at St. Alexius Hospital for 38 years and they raised 5 children.  After retirement, Richard & Jan spent 10 years wintering in Texas.

All who knew her enjoyed her smile, which was always calm and loving. Her love of her Lord was evident with many years of teaching Sunday School & VBS. Everyone who knew Jan knew she was a classy lady.  Jan enjoyed activities with her family which included camping and many summers at the cabin on Brush Lake.  She had a skill for knitting beautiful sweaters and sewing multiple projects.  Many of the grandkids remember crazy rides in the back seat of Grandma’s car and getting spoiled by grandma’s candy drawer which included chocolate, lemon drops and chocolate cake with butter on top.  Her past time was devoted to flying kites with her husband, genealogy and watching baseball games (Braves, Cubs & Twins).  She always looked forward to spending time at family gatherings.

Janice shared her life with her husband Richard for almost 66 years.; her children, Bridget (Rick) Cullen, Elizabeth (Bryan) Danielson, Holly (Pat) Brenden, Scott (Carol) Letteer, and Colleen (Dave) Weltz; her brother, Phil (Sharon) Koppelman.  The joy of her life, 13 grandchildren, Garrett (Hayley) & Geoffrey Cullen; Anna & Sara Danielson; Jonathan & Stephanie Brenden; Brady (Danielle), Grace, Caralie, Nathaniel, & Ivy Letteer; Michaela (Dalton) Rice & Aanders Weltz.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents Ted and Regina Koppelman; and brothers/sisters-in-law, Clifford (Lavonne) and Paul (Patricia) Koppelman; sister-in-law Shirley Pankow.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to your local Alzheimer’s Chapter or Zion Lutheran Music fund in memory of Janice L. Letteer.

Sincere condolences to the extended Letteer Family. I have many fond memories of summers spent at Brush Lake swimming and boating with the Letteer kids. I always admired Jan as she gracefully juggled her busy nursing career with raising 5 active kids. She was an inspiration! Wishing you all comfort and peace.
