Dale Ellingson

Share:

Dale Ellingson, 83, Bismarck, formerly of Heimdal, Fairbanks Alaska, and Minot, went to be with Jesus on June 16, 2023.  He was a friendly, caring conversationalist who will be missed by many.

A gathering of friends and family will take place from 2:00-4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Bismarck Funeral Home.

He grew up at the base of Black Hammer Hill, rural Wells County.  He loved to say he was born in the 1930’s to account for his philosophies.  Dale was an educator and salesman until retirement.  Living in Alaska was the highlight of his life, as was spending winters in Florida for the last 12 years.

Dale participated in so many activities – bowling, softball, horseshoes, tennis, racquetball, trap and silhouette shooting, kayaking, biking, skiing, hunting and fishing; but pickleball was his favorite sport.  He was known by many as “Mr. Pickleball” as he was the pioneer of the sport in Bismarck.

He was a people person and loved visiting with friends, and any stranger he could corner on the street, or a retail store.

Dale is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda; his daughter Connie (Dana) Archibald along with granddaughter Megan and grandson Brandon; son Corey (Tammy) Ellingson; brothers Bruce (Connie) Ellingson, Monte (Edna) Ellingson and sister Linda (Steve) Swanson; nieces and nephews Heidi, Ryan, Kyle, Elizabeth, Lydia, Kyle, and Isaac.

Preceding him in death are his parents Ernest and Dagny Ellingson, grandparents, and aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the organization of your choice.

Linda and family, Was so very saddened to see in the paper the death of dear, kind, funny Dale! I have too many stories to go into now, but suffice it to say, many many tennis matches were played and lotsa laughter!! You are all in my thoughts, my prayers and I am enveloping you all in a huge hug!! Dale will be missed!!, Sandy wald-clooten

I for one am really going to miss this guy. He always walked into the gym with a smile on his face and a big hello how are you doing. And when he left he always stood there, looked at you, said goodbye, have a nice day and then walked out. Way too many stories about Dale, most of which are very funny. He was a very unique, interesting, and knowledgeable character. When they say they broke the mold when they made you, it was so true with Dale. I so looked forward to seeing him and Linda when they arrived back from Florida each spring. They were always so glad to see you and me them. My thoughts and prayers are with you Linda and all of your family. I am so glad that I got to know him and you over the years. May God Bless You and help you at this difficult time. I wonder how it took before he cornered Jesus in heaven to strike up a conversation?

Corey and family, I will always remember Dale as a beacon of happiness, someone who effortlessly brought joy to those around him. His infectious smile and genuine kindness were a true testament to the beautiful soul he possessed. Sending our deepest condolences, love, and strength during this difficult time.

I wish I had a notebook with the accumulated pieces of advice for life that Dale saw fit to impart to me over the years. I distinctly remember him pulling me aside when I was in my early 20’s to encourage me to at my earliest convenience have absolutely all of my teeth extracted and replaced with a complete set of dentures, as he said he had recently done. “Now, Jennifer, all of your future money will be forever safe from the dentists! Just think of that!” As my first crown is on the horizon nearly 20 years later, I’m sure he’d be pleased to know I haven’t forgotten his opinion on the subject.
