Wilfred “Bill” Mastel, 90, Bismarck, died November 26, 2018 at CHI St. Alexius. Family will be receiving friends from 5 – 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Bismarck Funeral Home.
Bill was born May 29, 1928, in Hague, ND the son of Frank and Marion (Scherr) Mastel. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Gross on August 30, 1967. Bill worked as an adjudicator for Job Service of North Dakota for 29 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2237, The Elks Club #1199, and the Musicians Association.
He respected and knew the great beauty and value of music in every aspect. He was an accomplished accordionist and well known for his talent in the surrounding area. He started playing accordion at age 6 and trumpet at age 13. In 1951, he joined the Bubbling Trio, and in 1972, played with the Bubbling Quintet. He was also a member of Dakota Accordion Club. Next to his family, Bill’s music was an important part of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty; children, Rod (Della) Mastel, Bismarck, Pam Sander, Bozeman, MT, Mike (Julie) Mastel, Loveland, CO, and Darcie Mastel, Bismarck; grandchildren, Kelsey and Kati Mastel, Jerolyn (Joshua) Braun Kapellen, Mitchell and Michael Sander, Lara (Joshua) McClosky, Nicole (Daniel) Gray, and Kristopher (Bonnie) Bauer; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.
