Verna was born September 17, 1929, in Streeter, the daughter of John and Magdalena (Graf) Spitzer. She grew up on the family homestead in Streeter where she graduated high school. Verna acquired her teacher’s certificate and taught in a one room schoolhouse near Streeter for a period of time. Verna then moved to Houston, Texas and worked for the Texaco Company. While living in Montana, Verna worked for the State of Montana. Eventually, Verna moved back to North Dakota and worked for the Red Cross and did elder care, taking care of Belle Mehus and working at Missouri Slope Nursing Home.

Verna enjoyed spending time with her family, going to church and reading. Once moving into assisted living she enjoyed having coffee while visiting with the other residents and playing bingo.

She is survived by her daughters; Robin (Douglas) Coleman, Bismarck, and Kerry Johnson, Bismarck; three granddaughters, Brandi (Dosic) Seibel, Bismarck, Mandi (Robert) Jackman, Kalispell, Montana, and Michelle Arnold of Tallassee, Alabama; 11 great grandchildren; Alexandra, Haley, Todd, Jackson, Rowan, Zak, Joseph, Noah, Lazarus, Aizlin, and Micah; and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son; Shawn Wallin, her parents, five brothers, Elmer (Al), Alvin, Marvin, Art and Clarence Spitzer; three sisters, Ella Asplund, Lorene Spitzer and Helena Spitzer.
