Sylvia Vollan

Sylvia Kay Vollan, 80, passed away November 13, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Sunne Lutheran Church, Wilton. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Bismarck Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 5:00 -7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. 

Sylvia was born September 22, 1944 to Edwin and Thelma Aune. She grew up on the farm north of Wilton, ND and graduated with the class of 1962 from Wilton High School. After graduation, Sylvia moved to Bismack and began working for the North Dakota State Highway Department. 

During and after high school, she was dating Lester Vollan from Regan, ND. Lester sent her an engagement ring from Japan while he was enlisted in the Marine Corps. Lester was discharged from the Marine Corps in late 1963 and the two were married on February 15, 1964 at Sunne Lutheran Church in Wilton. They resided in Bismarck and Sylvia began her 40 year career at Basin Electric Power Cooperative.

Sylvia is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lester; son, Greg (Nancy) Vollan of Bismarck; daughter, Loree (Scott) Sorenson of Georgia; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Maureen Burck; brother, Earl Aune.
