Samuell "Smiley" Tariq Liggins was born on July 2nd, 2004 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was the ninth born child in a family of eleven. His friends affectionately called him Tariq, while his family used his childhood nickname, Smiley, because of his ever-present smile during his youth. He was 20 years old when God called his name on March 30th, 2025.
A high-spirited and energetic child, Tariq spent his youth in Memphis, TN; Bismarck, ND; Cedar City, Utah; Durango, CO and ultimately Farmington, NM, embracing each community with enthusiasm and eagerness. Tariq was a lifelong athlete, he enjoyed playing basketball, football, and boxing and was very talented at all 3, a credit to his devotion to doing the things he loved. From a young age, Tariq was committed to learning sign language to assist children with disabilities. He aspired to further his career by obtaining a CDL to become a commercial truck driver. In order to pay for that schooling, Tariq worked many retail and restaurant jobs in Farmington and Durango. He was a hard working young man and eventually saved up and bought his first car and moved into his own place.
Tariq was a fun-loving, jovial, playful person who was beloved by all who knew him. He was a radiant soul with an infectious smile that could make you forget your bad day. He was a very funny person and loved to laugh and bring laughter to those around him. He was very social and inviting, always greeting people with a big smile and a warm handshake. He was welcoming to all and made sure to include those who others had left out. He had a way of making everyone feel as though he was their best friend by the way he embraced everyone with love, no matter who they were. He was a natural-born giver to his friends. If you were without and he had it, he would give it to you in a heartbeat. If you needed an uplifting word or a shoulder to cry on, he would be there for you. He was a very adventurous and outgoing person and that personality allowed him to create long lasting memories with his family and friends. He lived a life full of love and happiness and he'll be cherished forever. We love you, Tariq!
