Ruth (Dockter) Engel, 95, a native of McClusky and Bismarck went to her eternal home on February 18, 2020.  Funeral services will be Monday February 24 th at 11:00 a.m. at Bismarck Baptist Church, 2211 Laforest Ave.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the start of the service at the church.  Lunch and burial following the service.  The burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Ruth was born on January 20, 1925, in Anamoose, ND to Gottlieb and Lydia (Rau) Dockter.  She grew up on a farm northeast of McClusky where she received her education at a county school.

Ruth was united in marriage to Herbert Engel in April of 1943 and they lived on a farm northeast of McClusky where they raised their four children.  She accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Brush Lake by Rev. A.J. Fischer.  She was a member of McClusky Baptist Church where she was very active in the lady’s group and teaching Sunday school.

In 1963 they bought Lang’s Shoe Shop and renamed it to Engel’s Shoe Shop.  When Herbert passed away, she sold everything and moved to Bismarck where she became active in the churches she attended.  For some time, she lived in Alabama and did mission work to help those in need.  Later she returned home to be closer to her family.

Ruth started The Sunshine Singer group, who sang at all the nursing homes.  Ruth enjoyed her garden, flowers, making quilts, afghans, and crocheting.  She was blessed with four children, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and twins on the way.  They were the joy of her life.

Ruth is survived by her sons:  LeRoy Engel, Dennis (Paulette) Engel; daughter Norleen (Delaino) Helm; daughter-in-law:  Colleen Engel; siblings:  Reuben (Delores) Dockter, Helen Olson; sister-in-law:  Pearlene Dockter; her grandchildren; great grandchildren; and twin girls on the way.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Gottlieb and Lydia, husband Herbert, son Dale, daughter-in-law Evelyn, sister Theresa (Mike) Dockter, brother Jonny (Adeline) Dockter, brother Alfred Dockter, brother-in-law Roger Olson, and an infant sister Easter.

In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials can be sent to either the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery or Crystal Springs Camp, 4848 36 th St SE, Medina, ND 58467.
