Ronald Dean Johnson, 62, Bismarck, passed away from pneumonia Sunday March 24, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck.  A memorial service will be held at Bismarck Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 28, 2019. He will be laid to rest at Aholan Cemetery in Wing, ND this spring.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Ron was born Dec. 16, 1956 in Stanley, ND to Lavern and Helen (Koski) Johnson.  Although he never married, he stayed very close to his mother Helen, sister Linda and her son Jason.  He made his home in Grand Forks, ND for many years before moving to Northwood, ND.
Ron started as a candy striper in the Tioga Hospital while still in high school.  He graduated from the University of North Dakota and worked his way through to a full nursing degree.  He was one of very few to get a perfect score on his final licensing exam.  Ron was a licensed Registered Nurse for 23 years and spent much of that time in Grand Forks.  His love for helping people and his faith are what drew him to his nursing career.
Growing up he enjoyed camping trips with his family.  He became a very avid piano player and was also asked to sing at various occasions.  Throughout his life, he enjoyed caring for others and reminiscing about the past and activities he did with his siblings during their youth.  He battled his MS for many years with dignity and grace before it forced him to retire and go back to Tioga and eventually Bismarck.
Ron is survived by his mother Helen Johnson, Tioga; his siblings, Linda, Williston, Paul (Terry), Bismarck, and Joel (Bobi), Bloomfield, NM.  He is also survived by his aunt Rauha Schumaier, Garrison, aunt Della Koski, Bismarck; nieces and nephews, Jason (Tonya), Mandan, Jennifer (Korey) Fried, Bismarck, Amanda (John) Akovenko, Dickinson, Josh (Dallas), Queen Creek, AZ, Lisa (Doyle) Hodges, Farmington, NM and Christina (Benito) Johnson, Albuquerque, NM; along with 12 great nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his father Lavern F. Johnson, Tioga, aunt Iva Mae Bjerke, Buxton, ND, uncle Arvo Koski, Bend, OR, uncle Elmer Koski, William Koski, aunt Vieno Lehto, uncle Lauri Koski all from Wing, aunt Martha Kytonen, New York Mills, MN, his grandparents Gustav and Violet Johnson, Buxton, and Victor and Marja Koski, Wing.
