Robert Speckmann, 84, Bismarck, passed away December 20, 2024. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Robert “Neighbor Bob” was born November 3, 1940 to Otto and Jean (Beaton) Speckmann in Grafton, ND. They moved to Bathgate and then Cavalier, where Bob graduated high school.
He joined the national guard and did his service to his country from 1957-1961 as well as attending the University of North Dakota. In 1961, Bob started with the Department of Transportation where he was employed for 41 years. During this time, Bob also owned several businesses including Town and Country Western Store, Longhorn Bar, Interstate and Century Liquor Stores.
Bob married Cheryl Hetzler in 1962 and they had two sons, Terry and Dale.
Upon his retirement in 2002 he moved to Southport to become a river rat. He enjoyed boating and spending time with his great friends and neighbors, working for and assisting the condo association and was always willing to help someone out.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Jean.
He is survived by his sons, Terry (Rhonda) Speckmann and Dale (Pam) Speckmann; granddaughter, Lillian Speckmann.
