Robert P. Pederson, 69, Hazelton, ND, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019 at a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hazelton. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
Robert P. Pederson was born May 28, 1949 in Duluth, MN, the son of Hilberg & Doris (Johnson) Pederson. He attended school in Duluth and finished in New Hope, MN.
He joined the US Navy in 1967 where he was a diesel mechanic and did two tours of duty in Vietnam. After his enlistment he went to work for the Department of Veterans Affairs where he held many different job titles. He spent 31 years with the federal government retiring in September of 2000.
He married Gloria Ohlhauser on August 2, 1997 on the west bank of University of Minnesota during a Stand Down. Robert was the founder of the Stand Down Veterans Helping Veterans in Minnesota. He and his wife were very active in this from 1992-2007.
He and his wife moved to Hazelton in the summer of 2016 where he lived until his passing.
He was a member of the American Legion and the DAV.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Gloria, Hazelton; son Kevin Pederson, West St. Paul, MN; daughter Amy (Marc) Olson, Superior, WI; grandchildren Arianna and Kevin Jr., Eagan, MN and their mother Joanna Pederson; sister Marilyn (Grant) Merritt, New Hope, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece.
