Richard Schmidt

Richard Schmidt, 80, Bismarck, died November 21, 2024 at St. Vincent's Care Center, where he had lived for the past year. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary, Bismarck. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. 

Richard was born August 15, 1944 to Frank and Magdalen (Duchscherer) Schmidt. He was raised on a farm and graduated from Karlsruhe High School in 1962. He attended BSC in Bismarck and obtained a degree in sales and finance. He was drafted to the Army in 1965 and was honorably discharged from the military in 1967. He lived in Bismarck and worked in sales for the remainder of his life after his military service.

Richard married Sandee Grekoff Schmidt and the two later divorced. 

He was a member of Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary Church in Bismarck where he worked as a custodian for several years. Richard loved his church and community. He was proud of his Catholic faith and tried to be obedient to his Lord. 

Richard leaves four brothers, Daniel (Coleen) Schmidt of Rapid City, SD, Patrick (Karen) Schmidt of Burlington, ND, Gerald Schmidt of Mandan, ND and Jeffery (Nancy) Schmidt of Minot, ND; two sisters, Ali (Fred) Coleman of Minot, ND and Debora (Danny) Seright of Towner, ND; 20 nieces and nephews and 44 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward Schmidt, Victor Schmidt; and niece, Sandee Esquivel.

The family prefers memorial to St. Vincent Care Center or Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary Church.
