Rauha (Rae) Schumaier, 89, Bismarck, formerly of Coleharbor, died peacefully June 21, 2022, at a Bismarck Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Bismarck Funeral Home. A private family burial will be at the Wing Cemetery.
Rauha was born January 11, 1933, to Victor and Marja (Kallio) Koski of Arena, ND. She was raised and educated in the Arena area. Rauha was the first from her community to attend the fifth annual session of Flickertail Girl’s State in Grand Forks, ND. She graduated from Wing High School in 1952. Rauha attended Valley City College to earn a teaching certificate and Bismarck Junior College for a degree in bookkeeping. She taught in several one room schoolhouses, worked in sales, and at Missouri Slope Lutheran Home. On June 12, 1955, she married Gottfried Bossert. This marriage was blessed with three children.
Rauha exchanged vows with Marvin Schumaier on May 28, 1977. The couple farmed twelve miles east of Garrison on his grandparent’s homestead. She took great pride in their shared experience of caring for land and livestock. Rauha had the green thumb of a master gardener, chronicled her life through photography, managed to find time to quilt, and craft decorative macramé. Our Granma Rae was a wonderful storyteller and loved a good visit over coffee and cookies.
She is survived by her children, Leonard (Laura) Bossert of Bismarck, LuWanda (Larry) Krynski of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Trent Bossert of Bismarck, Evan (Lindsay) Bossert of Bismarck, Mitch (Callie) Bossert of West Fargo, Claire Bossert of Phoenix, Becky (Trevor) Beenken of Bancroft, Iowa, Ben (Alissa) Krynski of Minneapolis, Sarah Krynski of Minneapolis; great grandchildren Brody, Raylee, Taylor, Aubrey and Dylan; only remaining sibling-sister Helen Johnson. Rauha was preceded in death by husbands, Gottfried Bossert and Marvin Schumaier, and beloved son Leslie Bossert.
