Orville D. Schmitcke, 77, Bismarck, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019, at his home in Bismarck, where he resided for the last 43 years. There will be a Rosary held at Bismarck Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 2:00, followed by a Memorial Service at the funeral home at 2:30. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery at 4:00pm.
Orville was born July 23, 1941 to Ben and Bertha (Jungling) Schmitcke. He married Delores Werner in 1962. They made their home in Bismarck. Orville worked in masonry for many years and started Schmitcke Masonry in 1976. His company continues to thrive today, owned and operated by his sons.
Orville enjoyed everything about the outdoors. He could often be found in his fishing boat somewhere along the Missouri River. He shared his love for the outdoors with his sons and grandsons, spending many hours hunting and fishing with them. Several of Orville’s passions include leatherwork, making beautiful custom rifle stocks, and other woodworking.
Orville is survived by his wife, Delores; his children, Dale (Barbara), David, and Gary (Barbara); grandchildren, Kevin (Amanda), Melissa, Travis (Raeann), and Tara (Tony); and great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Addison, and Baby Schmitcke (Due in June); sisters in-law, Betty Fuhrman, Louie Holzer, Diane (Ed) Dockter, Mary (Dick) Cieslak, Lundina (Bennie) Haux, Irene (Ken) Adolph, and Carol Werner.
Orville is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Bertha; his siblings, Donald, Lyle, and Delores; in-laws, Anthony and Barbara Werner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cecilia Werner, Glen Werner, Tony Werner, Al Holzer, and Tom Fuhrman.
