Norris Reiswig

December 30, 1934 — January 12, 2025

Norris Reiswig, 90, of Bismarck, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 12, 2025, at Sanford Health, Bismarck.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Bismarck Funeral Home. The family will be receiving guests one hour prior to the service.

Born on December 30, 1934, in McClusky, ND, he was the son of Ben and Minnie (Triebrausser) Reiswig. Growing up alongside his nine older siblings, Norris learned the values of hard work and family on the family farm, where he and his brothers contributed until they set out to carve their own paths.

Norris eventually met his only wife Dianne in McClusky, to this union, three children were born.

Norris dedicated much of his working life to the Iron Workers Union, playing a crucial role in constructing some of Bismarck’s enduring structures. He proudly carried union number 72, a remarkable achievement out of millions of union workers. His career eventually took him to Minneapolis, MN, where in 1989, he was proud to be part of the team that helped build the iconic Mall of America. This significant accomplishment remained one of his proudest moments throughout his life.

A man of many interests and hobbies, Norris spent his days tinkering in his garage, enjoying nature through hunting and fishing, and feeding the geese by the river. He treasured time spent with his grandchildren and valued the simple joys of life, like meeting friends at McDonald's on Main St every morning for coffee. Norris also gained a reputation in his community for zipping around town on his scooter or driving his car, often stopping to connect with friends and neighbors. His scooter served not only as a mode of transportation but as a way to connect with others as he traversed town or visited construction sites. One of his notable memories includes being the first person to drive across the new Memorial Bridge in Bismarck, a testament to the friendships he built with all the workers during its construction while visiting the site every day. Most recently he was also excited about driving down to the new Railroad Bridge.

In his later years, Norris found great joy in family gatherings, where he loved to sit back and observe the lively chaos created by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His nurturing spirit and affectionate presence will be deeply missed.

Norris is survived by his daughter, Patti (Randy) Bruce of Mandan, ND, and their children: Josh (Cara) Bruce of Minong, WI and his three children, Aubrie, Hadlie, and Raelie; Cody (Lindsay) Bruce of Duluth, MN, and their three children, Zaida, Emmett, and Elizabeth; Seaira (Zak) Schermerhorn of Dickinson, ND, and their four children, Elliott, Trezdyn, Navy, and Aftyn; and Nicole (Dalton) Bohrer of Mandan, ND, and their two children, Addison and Baby Bohrer; as well as his son, Steve of MN; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Fulkerson; his parents, Ben and Minnie Reiswig; and his brothers, Clearance, Lawrence, Sam, Melvin, and Elroy. He also mourned the loss of his sisters, Bertha, Esther, Altrude, and Delores.

Norris Reiswig's legacy of hard work, dedication to family, and love for the McClusky and Bismarck/Mandan communities will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be missed dearly.
