Norman “Norm” J Schatz Jr., 67 of Bismarck, passed away December 9, 2021.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 17, 2021, at Bismarck Funeral Home, Bismarck, ND.

Norm was born October 11, 1954, in Bismarck to Norman Sr and Jacqueleen (Gesellchen) Schatz. He attended Bismarck Public Schools. Norm married Marilyn Schmidt on April 19, 1980, in Bismarck. They had two sons during their union, Norman III and Taylor. Norm married Cindy Nygard Zerface on December 31, 1997, in Bismarck. Norm worked for Northwest Contracting and Capital City Construction as a concrete finisher. Following neck and back surgeries, he was not able to continue construction work. Norm then worked for the Mandan Public Schools as a ground’s keeper and then as a custodian for Mary Stark Elementary School until his disability.
Norm leaves behind his wife, Cindy; daughter, Sonja (Shawn) Diffely, Garrison; sons, Derek Zerface, Fargo, Norman III, Bismarck and Taylor, Fargo; two granddaughters, Bree and Lexi Diffely, both Garrison; sister, Linda (Lynn) Thomsen, Fargo; mother-in-law, Lucille Nygard, Bismarck; uncle, Darryl Schatz, Bismarck; aunt, Lovila Bernhardt, Bismarck; brother-in-law, Glen (Bonnie) Nygard, Garrison; sister-in-law, Gay (Dave) Mantz, Bismarck; nephews, Jeff (Ann) Thomsen, Jim (Heather) Thomsen, both Fargo, Jeremy (Melissa) Nygard, Bismarck, Jody (Emmie) Nygard, Texas, Josh Mehlhoff, Bismarck, Jay Nygard, Mandan, Eric (Jessica) Nygard, Canada; nieces, Amanda Crawford, Lincoln, Anissa (Lynn) Hove, Parshall; great nieces Aspyn, Peightan, Regyn Thomsen, all Fargo; great nephew, Jaxson Thomsen, Fargo, and great-great nephew, Zaidyn Thomsen, Fargo, and numerous cousins.
Norm is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Jackie Schatz; his father-in-law, Lowell Nygard; aunt, Helen Schatz; brothers-in-law, Jon Nygard and David Granlie; sister-in-law, Bonnie J Johnson and nephew, Jesse J Johnson.
