Norma Gabel, 93, Bismarck, after spending 13 months in Marian Manor Healthcare Center in Glen Ullin, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2018 from complications of a stroke. There will be a visitation at Bismarck Funeral Home on Thursday, September 20, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Norma was born in Bismarck on June 13, 1925, the daughter of Maylon and Olive Cordon. She was raised and educated in Bismarck. In 1941, Norma married Robert Gabel of Gibbs Township in Burleigh County. Shortly before that Bob joined the US Navy. Norma and Bob traveled the world pursuing his career in the Navy. They raised a family of three children. In 1962 they returned to Bismarck to make their home.
Norma lived a full life taking care of her husband and family. She also worked at A. W. Lucas store in downtown Bismarck for several years. After Bob’s retirements from the US Navy and his career at Hedahls, Norma and Bob spend many winters as snowbirds living the winters in Apache Junction, AZ while returning to Bismarck to enjoy the summers.
Norma is survived by daughter Roberta “Bobbie” Hagen and sons Norman (Cindy) and Ronald (Kathy), Boise, ID; her grandchildren Shari (Chris) Rolfson, Mike (Xan) Kramer, Mundi (Jeff) Schmidt, Steel, Chris (Kelli), and Tonya Gabel; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and one great-great granddaughter; along with Cindy’s son Matthew (Hayley) and his family. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her husband.
