Myrna Backman, 82, of Wilton, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2018. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 12th, from 5-7 p.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 13th, 10:00 a.m. at the Mission Evangelical Free Church in Wilton, ND, with the Rev. Russell G. Whitaker, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bismarck.
Myrna was born January 5, 1936 in Bismarck to Israel and Ruth (Falkenstein) Keator. She grew up on a farm near Regan, and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1954. She attended Minot State Teachers College and taught school in the Wilton-Regan area.
Myrna married Merwin Backman on June 21, 1957, and together raised four children. She was an active member of her church, a homemaker, and worked at MedCenter One (1986), Baptist Care Center and St. Vincent’s Nursing Home. She also helped with the family business, Backman Drilling, answering phone calls and bookkeeping.
Myrna was a hoot and loved owls. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by husband Merwin, daughter Renae (Steve) Dockter, sons Mark (Linda), Ryan, and Rex (Rajean) Backman; grandchildren Stephanie (Brad) Johnson and Joshua Dockter; Kevin, Brandon, and Connor Backman; Jade and Raylee Backman; Relissa, Reed, and Raina Backman; great-grandchildren Bailey, McKenna, and Beckett Johnson, and Cadence Dockter; siblings Norma Kienzle, Doris Ann (Don) Van Beek, and Lester (Lois) Keator; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Nathan Dockter, brother-in-law Norman Kienzle, and niece Debbie Silbernagel.
