Monty Skogstad

Monty Skogstad,77, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024 at Baptist Health and Rehab in Bismarck North Dakota with his family present. A memorial service will be held on Friday September 27th at 9:00 am at the Bismarck Funeral Home. Burial will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 am. 

Monty was born on April 1, 1947, to Harold and Nadine Skogstad. He was raised on a farm near New Town, North Dakota. He graduated from New Town High School in 1965. In October of 1965, Monty enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years of honorable and faithful service. While in the navy he was promoted to 2nd Class Petty Officer, which is the rank of E-5. He served on the USS Delta AR-9 for one year and then the USS Neptune ARC-2 for 18 months. He was also a member of the Beck-Sherven Unit 290 in New Town. 

After his service in the Navy, Monty returned to New Town and married Marian Spotted Bear and had two beautiful daughters Faith and Deidre. They lived in Minot where Monty worked as a letter carrier for 10yrs. After his divorce, he and Deidre moved to New Town where he worked in the oil fields and Northrup Corporation. He was also a school bus driver and a caregiver at Tri City Cares, Inc., a center for disabled children.

In February of 1990, Monty met Linda Foolbear and her youngest son Jesse. Together they moved to Bismarck and started their new life. After moving to Bismarck he worked various jobs including Pride Industries, Manchester House and Prairie Learning Center. He also worked at Laducer Industries, and Bismarck Parks and Rec. Monty’s biggest asset was working with young people. He was a good communicator, and the young people liked and respected him for that. 

Monty and Linda were married in June 2001 in New Town and continued to live in Bismarck until his passing. They loved and cared for each other very much. Monty was proud of his home state of North Dakota. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, riding his bike, and taking long drives all over the country. He was a true athlete, doing everything from boxing, basketball, softball, and swimming. He also loved visiting with anybody and everybody. 

He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Deidre (Marvin); sons, Daniel, Jesse (Margaret); grandchildren, Demar, Tre, Raynathan, Brandon (Sela), Ashley (Phil); great-grandsons, Vegeta & Lucas.

Monty was preceded in death by his daughter, Faith Ann; son, Charlie Zamora; mother, Nadine; father, Harold; grandparents, Helge and Ingaborg (Seim) Skogstad and Lloyd & Stella(Sumner) Turner.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Parkinson’s Foundation Minnesota & Dakotas Chapter, Bismarck AMVETS Post 9, and North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
