Lu was born October 23, 1931, in a sod house on a farm in Ashley, ND to Gottlieb and Bertha Maier. The family moved to Ellendale, ND during the dirty 30’s as farming was no longer profitable. She attended school in Ellendale until her junior year and graduated from Ashley High School in 1949 when the family moved back to Ashley to operate the Maier Meat Market.
After Lu graduated, the family moved to Bismarck where she married Ed Telin and started her life as a loving mother to Barbara, Patricia and Darcey. She was a stay-at-home mom until Darcey started school at which time Lu became a dedicated employee for JCPenney’s for 60 years until finally retiring at the age of 89. She was married to Don Miller from 1975 to 1986.
Lu was a very caring and giving person who was always thinking of others. She was a generous, kind hearted person who enjoyed shopping for her homebound friends, doting on her three daughters, sewing, cake decorating and crafts of all kind especially her unique personalized greeting cards and posters for any occasion. She had a deep Christian foundation and practiced her faith on a daily basis. She was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Bismarck Elkettes, Bismarck Booster Board and Christian Women’s Club. She enjoyed traveling around the world through the Good Neighbor Club.
