Lorrene K. Brown, 92, Bismarck, formerly of Elgin and rural Bentley, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019 at CHI St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 1, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Bismarck. Burial will be held at Mandan Union Cemetery on Tuesday, April 2. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Lorrene Schmidt was born June 20, 1926 to Frank and Eva (Strobel) Schmidt in rural Bentley, ND. Lorrene worked at JC Penney’s and Sauer’s Grocery in Mott and Beyer’s Café in Richardton where her parents had moved after retiring from the family farm near Bentley.
On October 22, 1947 Lorrene was united in marriage to Leo R. Brown at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richardton, ND. After marrying Leo, they started their life together on the family farm in rural Bentley for over 50 years. She was her husbands’ right hand as they worked side by side. During this time Lorrene was a member of St. John’s Altar Society and Church, New Leipzig and later St. Vincent’s Catholic Church and altar society, Mott.
Lorrene loved cooking, gardening, sewing for her daughters, crocheting, playing cards and Bingo. She also enjoyed her time with her family and especially watching her husband and daughters water ski in their private little dam. She was also involved with 4-H.
Lorrene previously lived at the Primrose Retirement until one year ago when she moved to a Mandan care center.
Blessed to have shared her life are her daughters, Maureen Stockert and Renae (Dan) Kimball, all of Bismarck, and Lonae (Duane) Dicken, Horace, ND; grandchildren, Tanya Watkins, Amber (Jon) Larson, Tiffany (Steve) Bailey, Brandon Dicken (Sam Janckowski), Austen (Christine) Dicken, and Nathan Kimball; five great-grandchildren, Emma Larson, Kailey, Luke, and Mathew Watkins, and Lucy Bailey; sisters-in-law, Ann Olson and Lavina (Fran) Forster all of Bismarck; and brother-in-law, Matt Brown, Glendive, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
Lorrene is preceded in death by her husband, Leo, of sixty-four years; her parents; six sisters and spouses; one brother, and a grandson, Sean Stockert.
