LINDA ENGEL

Linda Engel left this world just as she lived her life: quietly, gently, and with the love and support of her family.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky, ND.  Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the Bismarck Funeral Home.

Linda Grant Brothers was born October 14, 1939 in North Providence, RI to Alfred and Margaret Brothers, joining her older sister Audrey. She fell in love with Norman Engel in his dashing Air Force uniform, and soon after that they married at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA in 1958.  Their first child, Jeffrey, was born there in 1959. After Norman was discharged from the service, he got the itch to return to the farm where he grew up, and Linda found herself going from a military wife to a farm wife. More children soon followed: Greg in 1960, Denise in 1964, and Scott in 1970. Linda raised her children on the farm near Kief, ND, wanting nothing more than to be a mother. Her husband passed away in 1989.

In 1990, Linda began the next chapter of her life in Bismarck. She was so proud to earn her 2-year degree at Bismarck State College. She began working at Sears in Gateway Mall in Paint and Hardware, retiring just a few years ago due to ill health.  She moved to Library Square in Mandan to be nearer her daughter. She fell 2 years ago and couldn’t get back on her feet, causing a move to Prospera on Sunset Drive in Mandan.

She enjoyed reading mystery novels and had read all of Agatha Christie’s books, liked to study ancient history, and was a big James Bond fan. She had a National Geographic subscription for many, many years. She was also very proud to be from Rhode Island and spent many hours working on her family history.

Linda passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 in a Bismarck hospital. Her family would like to thank the ICU staff at Sanford Hospital for the excellent and considerate care she received in the last week of her life. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children:  Jeffrey, Kief, Gregory (Julie), Minot, Denise Sather (Brian), Mandan, and Scott (Susan), Centennial, CO, 5 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons, and 2 step-great-grandsons, as well as her brother-in-law Rev. Alden Burhoe and her nieces Pam Lavoie and Jane Anderson and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman, her parents, Alfred and Margaret Brothers, her sister, Audrey Burhoe, and her father and mother-in-law Jacob and Kathryn Engel.
