Leocadia Holsti

d. October 30, 2021

Leocadia ‘Peggy’ Kelsch-Holsti went home to Jesus on October 30, 2021 at age 95.

Leocadia was born in Selfridge, ND to Theresa (Fisher) and John Klein on May 30, 1926.  She went to school and grew up in Selfridge.  As a young woman, Leocadia received her nickname ‘Peggy’ while working for a law firm in Bismarck. She lived with her sister Francis and they had many adventures together. She married Egiedy Kelsch in 1947 and they had eight children together.  Peggy worked for 25 years at St. Alexius Hospital before retiring. In 1981, Peggy married Arthur Holsti. They enjoyed travelling in their RV, dancing, playing cards, and helping taking care of their grandchildren. Peggy was actively involved in the Burleigh County Senior Center coordinating various activities (Pinochle anyone) and always lending a helping hand.  Peggy loved to play all kinds of games, whether it was with friends, her children, or her grandchildren, or just on her own with a deck of cards or a puzzle. Peggy’s strong faith carried her through life, with regular attendance to Catholic service.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s Egiedy Kelsch and Art Holsti, her son Kenneth, and all of her brothers and sisters: Adam, John, Joseph, Andrew, Frances, Anton, Magdalena Rice, and Catherine Traxinger.

Peggy is survived by her children Patricia Esterberg (Farmington, MN), William and Mary (Wickenheiser) Kelsch (Bismarck), John and Laura (Kalheim) Kelsch (Bismarck), Teresa and David Gobble (Lakewood, CO), Francella Kraft (Grants Pass, OR), Marvin and Maria (Yu) Kelsch (Ventura, CA), Kevin and Theresa (Gragert) Kelsch (Kailua-Kona, HI), her 17 grandchildren and 11 great-Grandchildren, and uncounted nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to the church of St. Anne, the Burleigh County Seniors Club or St. Mary’s Cemetery.

The family of Peggy wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and residents of St. Gabriel’s Community, and all of the doctors, nurses, and hospice care over the last several years.

Cremation services have taken place and funeral services will be announced and held at a future date. Please sign the guest book and leave a memory on-line.
