Leo Silbernagel

Leo Carl Silbernagel passed away on January 10, 2025, at St. Vincent's Good Samaritan Society in Bismarck, ND.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on January 17, 2025, at the Church of Corpus Christi in Bismarck, ND. Burial will follow at 1 pm at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND. To view the livestream, go to https://www.youtube.com/@CorpusBismarck/streams

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on January 16, 2025, at the Bismarck Funeral Home. Rosary and vigil service will be at 7 pm. Visitation will continue at the church an hour before the service.

Leo was born on October 23, 1937 to Katherine and Felix Silbernagel. Leo served in the United States Coast Guard from 1955-1959.

He married Darlene Lucille Heidt on June 21, 1960. 

Leo and Darlene moved to Riverdale, ND, in 1964, where he worked for the Corps of Engineers. In 1974, he transferred to the Bureau of Reclamation and worked at the pumping station on Lake Sakakawea and Lake Audubon. Leo and Darlene moved to Garrison in 1975, where they lived until 1992 when they moved to Wilber, Washington, where he worked on the Grand Coulee Dam. They retired in 1995 and moved back to Bismarck, ND, to be close to family and friends.

Leo enjoyed hunting and fishing and had always planned to return to North Dakota and live near the Missouri River.

Leo will be deeply missed by Darlene and their children, Lex (Karen), JoLynn (Dave), Diane (Bill), Lori (Eric); grandchildren, Michael (Nikki), Jessica (Steve), Jim (Sarah), Liz (Joseph), Katie (Indira), Quinn (Brooklyn), Tommy; great-grandchildren, Rennick, Jacob, Calli, Owen , Luca, Rosie, Arlo, and Ellis; siblings, Maggie, Eugenia, Eddie, Valerie, Robert, and Joey.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine and Felix; son, “Baby Silbernagel,” sisters Ann, Mary, Lena, Lilian, and Arlie.
