Leo Becker, 94, passed away July 18th, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society – Miller Pointe of Mandan, ND. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 at Church of St. Anne, 1321 Braman Ave, Bismarck with Rev. Kregg Hochhalter officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bismarck Funeral Home, 3723 Lockport St, Bismarck with a rosary/vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Leo Becker was born April 28th, 1930 to Anton and Alisia (Bitz) Becker, in Logan County. He graduated from Napoleon High School in 1947. In his younger years, Leo worked various jobs but mostly on the farm with his parents and siblings.
On October 22, 1951, he married Frances Piatz at St. Anthony Church in rural Logan County. Leo was drafted into the Army, January of 1952. He spent 17 months overseas in Germany. Upon his return Leo and Frances bought the Country Store in St. Anthony, South of Napoleon. In 1959, he moved his family to his parents’ farm (West of Burnstad) where they resided until 1968, when the family moved to Bismarck. After moving to Bismarck Leo worked in the tire business until the late 70’s when he purchased Morstad Potato Company. Leo employed and worked with family until he sold the business in 1986.
Leo was a Secretary of the Bismarck Eagles #2237. He was also Dakota State Secretary, Local President and North Central Regional President of the Eagles. After leaving the Eagles in 1997, he went to work part time for CrossCountry Courier. He retired after 18 1/2 years at the age of 85. Leo was also a long time member of the Elks, VFW, the Brotherhood of St. Antonius of St. Anthony and American Legion. Leo’s many hobbies included gardening, fishing and especially making sausage and jerky with his Becker family. Over the years, Leo played clarinet in the Marty Sperle Band.
Leo is survived by his 8 children, Fritz (CJ), Rose (Darrell) Klipfel, Steve, Marcy (Kyle) Adolphson, Jim, LeeAnn (Ron) Meyer, Bernie (Kim) and Rod (Lisa). His 15 grandchildren Preston, Kara, Wendy (Jason), Whitney (friend Jacey), Cody (Lisa), Shanda (Matt), Cameron, Morgan, Jennifer, Rachel (Ricky), Trevor, Nicole (Damir), Mitchell (Cassie), Payton, Sydney (Derek) and 15 great-grandchildren Naomi, Jordan, Kirsten, Marcus, Carson, Natalie, River, Jaxson, Safia, Harris, Brynley, Brooklyn, Joseph, Callyn, and Landon. Two sisters Betty Schumacher and Alice (Jerry) Regner, Brother Leonard (Carol). Nine sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law Marvie, Tillie, Lavata, Mathilda Bitz, Delrose Schmitt, Sally (John) Johs, Alice Schumacher, Marion Piatz, Ida Kuhn and Pete Piatz.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Frances) infant son Joseph, parents-in-law Frank and Rosina Piatz, brothers and sisters, Joe, Pete, George, Anton, Paul, AnnaMarie Ibach and Helen Schumacher. Brothers and sisters-in-law Leo Ibach, Kenny Schumacher, Tony Schumacher, Helen Becker, Frances Becker, Fred Bitz, Bill Schmitt, Tom Schumacher, Willie and Alvina Piatz, Leo Kuhn and Leo Piatz.
Leo’s Family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sanford Hospital, Wentz Living Center and Good Samaritan Society – Miller Pointe for the care given to our father.
