Lee Jacobson

July 14, 1940 — September 29, 2024

Lee Jacobson of Bismarck, ND was welcomed home by his heavenly Father on September 29th, 2024, with his family by his side after a long, courageous battle with blood cancer. 

Lee was born in Elgin ND on 7/14/1940 to Dr. Melvin and Geneva Lystne Jacobson. He was the third of 6 children who he enjoyed spending time with and remained very close to until his last days. Lee excelled in many sports throughout his junior high and high school days including basketball, football, and track where he broke the school record in the pole vault. His children and grandchildren inherited his athletic gene participating and excelling in several sports at the high school and collegiate level. Lee entered into the United States Army in January of 1962 where he proudly served until 1965. He was so very proud of his time served and took additional pride in the fact that his brothers also served their country. 

On September 17th, 1965, Lee married Bonnie Lipelt in Elgin, ND surrounded by multiple friends and family. They were blessed with 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Their life was truly blessed. 

Lee graduated with a Masters Degree in Entomology from NDSU and spent his years working as a teacher in Wing, ND and as an environmental scientist for the state of ND. He retired in 2006 and spent his retirement years golfing and enjoying time with his grandkids. 

Lee is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his 3 children, Lesley Westin and her children Hannah and Wyatt, Lorelee Traxinger and her children, Christopher, Lindsay and Kelsey and Lamonte Jacobson and his wife Michelle along with their 3 children Courtney, Benjamin and Zach; 3 brothers, Hugh, Bob and Wally; and 2 sisters, Sandra and Pat.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sons-in-law, Robert Traxinger and Wade Westin. 

Celebration of life will be held on 10/10/24 at 11:00 a.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home, 3723 Lockport Street, Bismarck, ND 58503. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Mandan, ND. 

The family would like to thank all the friends and family that helped during this difficult time. Words cannot express our gratitude. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the ND Honor Flight. 

Lee was the most selfless and loving man and will forever be in our hearts and we find peace knowing that he is now resting in the arms of the Lord.
