Laurence "Larry" Lucas

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband and father, Laurence “Larry” Lucas, on March 30, 2025. Larry passed away in Bismarck following a long battle with various health issues.

Larry was born April 24, 1952, to Harry and Mary Lucas. He was the third child of a total of six children. Larry spent his childhood and earlier adult years growing up in Great Falls, Montana. He loved spending time on the river and had a love for classic cars. He also had a love for watching football and was a long-time loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.

He met his wife, Janet (Nelson) Lucas, and they were married on March 8, 1980. His job as a district manager of Columbia Paint, brought them to Bismarck in 1982 where they would start their family and call Bismarck their long-time home. Their son Matthew was born January 17,1985, followed by their daughter, Jennifer, August 27, 1988.

Larry struggled his whole life with medical issues due to a car accident where he broke his back. In October of 2021, he took a bad fall and broke his femur, which resulted him having to be in a nursing home. Even with all the medical trials and tribulations, Larry always had a positive attitude. When most people would be down or give up, he persevered. Anyone who met him, was in awe of his strength and tenacity. He will leave a long-lasting impression in everyone’s hearts.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Lucas; son, Matt Lucas; daughter, Jennifer Lucas; brother, Rich (Mary Ann) Lucas; sister, Leanne O’Gara; brother, Dan (Chris Ann) Meyer. We would also like to mention special family friends, Ken and Karen Haggart and Dean and Cindy Dassinger; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his mother, Mary Hartwig and his brother, Tom Lucas.

There will be no visitation or funeral at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a future time this summer with family in Montana.
