Kim Scholl, 70, Mandan, passed away on August 6, 2024. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Narum officiating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13 from 4 to 6pm at the Bismarck Funeral Home.
Kim Scholl was born on December 31, 1953 in Hazen, North Dakota to Ruben and Tillie Goetz. As a child, Kim developed a love for family, friends, and the Bismarck, ND Big Boy, which she carried with her to her death. She also became a big fan of Lucille Ball through her TV shows including “I Love Lucy.”
In 1972, while living in Carson, she met Bob Scholl of Raleigh, ND through mutual friends and they were married on February 16, 1974. Following the wedding, they moved to Bismarck while Bob finished lineman school at Bismarck Junior College (Now Bismarck State). They then settled in Steele, ND and then Mandan where Bob worked.
Kim worked as a homemaker, but also had various jobs such as selling AVON in a few different tenures. She also participated in various arts and crafts including needlepoint and crochet knitting. With the help of her husband, she also did a good amount of woodwork crafting. Bob would cut the wood and Kim would decorate it.
Kim also loved to travel. She had a few places that she loved visiting including the Black Hills of South Dakota and Glacier National Park. In her later years, Kim was always up for a motorcycle ride or a trip to Prairie Knights Casino which is close to home. But the most memorable moment came when Kim visited Lucille Ball’s grave in Jamestown, New York while on a trip to see the Twins play in several places.
Kim was also an animal lover. She primarily loved dogs, especially the Mini Schnauzer breed. She and her family welcomed five into their home, Pepper, TJ, Sammy, Hunter (a mix breed rescue) and Willy. From the time the family adopted Willy to her dying days, Willy holds a special spot in her heart because she always wanted a white dog.
Other hobbies included Kim playing card and board games with friends and family. It included a range of card games from Whist to Pinochle and board games including a few games for kids such as Hi-O’Cherry-o and Chutes and Ladders, which were played with her two sons.
In addition to “I Love Lucy,” she loved various other TV shows such as various comedies, drams, talk shows, cooking shows and sports like the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins baseball. She had a special heart for the Christmas movies offered up by the various networks including Hallmark and Lifetime. Kim loved Christmas to the point that the Scholl Family would decorate right after Thanksgiving most years. This included putting up and decorating the tree. This would also include baking various treats for the holiday. Kim was also fond of angels and snowmen, the latter which she would leave displayed around the house well into February though the main decorations would come down just after the New Year.
Kim will be deeply missed by her husband, Bob; sons, Jessy Scholl and Jerry Scholl; her older sister, Brenda Well (Goetz); her in-laws, Jim Well, Patrick, Randy (Eileen), Dan (Patty), Ken (Christie) and many nieces and nephews.
Kim was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben and Tillie Goetz; Bob’s parents, Casper and Ann Scholl and various aunts and uncles.
