Joyce Mary Johnson, age 86, of Bismarck, passed away February 7, 2019 at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2019 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bismarck. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a rosary service at 6:30 led by Catholic Daughters. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
Joyce was born January 21, 1933 in Walhalla, ND, the daughter of Adelard and Alexina (Chaput) Lepire. She attended a rural elementary school and graduated from Park River High School. After high school, she attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks, ND. She was employed at First State Bank of Park River, First National Bank of East Grand Forks and McRutherford Potato Co. of Walhalla.
Joyce married Herbert Johnson on September 6, 1954 at Our Lady Sacred Heart Church, Olga, ND. Together they raised six children. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Gerards Guild, and the Serra Club. Joyce enjoyed being with family, grandchildren, and crafting. She also loved serving her church family.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Paula (Bob) Miller, Elk City, OK; son Brad (Ronna) Johnson, Bismarck; son Brian (Terrie) Johnson, Maple Grove, MN; daughter Michelle (Jim) DeDakis, Chandler, AZ; son Mark (Tonya) Johnson, Pelican Rapids, MN; daughter Nikki (Ryan) Heiniger of Burlington, IA; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, sisters Delores Frome, Madison, WI; Donna Reller, Waconia, MN; Marjorie Gillespie, Larimore, ND; and brother Gary Lepire, Walhalla, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert, her parents, and one sister, Elaine Darling.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be made to The Catholic Daughters of Corpus Christi Church in BIsmarck.
