Frederick (Fred) Erich Emil Stoehr, 90, a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, passed away January 26, 2023 following the effects of dementia. The son of Frederick and Edith Stoehr, Fred was born at home on September 28, 1932 in Maplewood, New Jersey. He attended school in Maplewood and worked with his father’s custom furniture business until joining the Air Force.
At the age of 19, Fred enlisted in the USAF. He valued this service highly and was assigned to F-86 and F-100 squadrons while serving in Morocco, Texas and Louisiana.
Fred married the love of his life, Arlene Campbell, on February 1, 1958 and spent 56 years happily together before Arlene’s passing in 2014.
Fred is survived by a daughter Donna (Joseph) Manley in Bethlehem, PA and a son, Paul (Kelley) Stoehr in Bismarck, ND, his brother William (Virginia) Stoehr, sisters Marie Cutt and Alice (Karl) Faller. Fred is also survived by three grandchildren, Matthew (Carly) Stoehr of Jamestown, ND; James (Stephanie) Stoehr of Mandan, ND; and Sarah (Erick) Franklund of Steele, ND and five great-grandchildren. Fred is preceded in death by sister Eleanor Rudy and his loving wife Arlene.
His loved ones will remember his kind nature and giving spirit. Fred and Arlene were both active in their community by time spent at numerous food banks and working with Habitat for Humanity. Fred will be remembered for his woodworking skills as he made hundreds of crosses for members of their church, visiting pastors and many other people.
A service honoring Fred’s life will be held on February 10, 2023 at Bismarck Funeral Home at 1 pm with Rev. Julie Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Dream Center Bismarck, 1805 Park Avenue, Bismarck, ND 58504.
