Floyd Fischer

Floyd Alfred Fischer, 84, of Bismarck, passed away on Dec. 2, 2024 in a Bismarck Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Church of the Ascension. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 at the Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Floyd “Dakota Joe” was an avid fisherman and hunter who also enjoyed playing pinochle. He managed the Piggly Wiggly grocery store after graduating from Bismarck High in 1958. He went on to be an exterminator for a number of years. He then became a manager for Hardees restaurants in 1976 retiring in 1993.

He married Evelyn Gill in 1962 and had 2 sons, Randy and Todd from that union.

Floyd had a shot gun wedding with his fishing and hunting soulmate, Barbara Howe. The wedding was on Friday, opening weekend of pheasant season 1993. Following the wedding on Saturday, all the men went hunting and Barb had to stay home with the ladies. Barb and Floyd spent many years hunting, fishing, camping and enjoying the great outdoors.

He is survived by his wife Barb, sons Randy (Stacy) and Todd (DelRae), grandchildren Brittany, Parker, Stephanie and Shannarae, great-grandchildren Jaxon and Eastyn, brother Tim (Bonnie), sister-in-law Jeanette and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Amelia, brothers Dave, Don and sister-in-law Bert.
