Evelyn Hansen, 92, of Bismarck, ND, passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 1, 2023. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Bismarck Funeral Home with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.

Evelyn was born to Casper and Lena Thomas in Harvey, ND on December 17, 1930. Evelyn grew up on a farm in the Harvey area and attended the local country school. In 1946 her family moved to a farm near Sykeston, ND. Evelyn worked on the family farm, and that’s where she met Darrell Hansen. Evelyn and Darrell were united in marriage on February 4, 1952, in Sykeston, ND. After they were married, they lived and worked on their farm. Evelyn was also a CNA at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND. In 1972 they moved off the farm and into a house in Sykeston. Evelyn then started a new job as the head cook of the school.

Evelyn and Darrell were blessed with six children. Her family was always a priority. While in Sykeston Evelyn was a member of the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a 4-H leader. In 1991 Evelyn and Darrell sold their home and moved to Bismarck, ND to be closer to family. She worked at the Donut Hole, Kensington Assistant Living, and as a banquet server at the Ramkota Motel. In 2017, Evelyn moved into St. Gabriel’s Benedictine Society, where she lived until her passing.

Evelyn enjoyed playing the accordion, doing crafts, was a seamstress, a cake decorator, and a gardener. She loved playing cards with family and friends. She also loved to teach her grandchildren how to bake and sew. She was known to have her “famous peanut-butter cookies” on hand for whenever the grandkids came to visit. Evelyn also enjoyed traveling around to outings in a limo with close friends to the casino, bingo, and lunch.

Evelyn is survived by her six children: Sandy (Curt) Erickson, Bismarck; Clayton (Cindy) Hansen, Jamestown; Clifford (Judy) Hansen, Fargo; Brenda (Mike) Victor, McKenzie; Sherri Hulm, New Salem; Byron (Kailyn) Hansen, Bismarck; 13 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; one brother, Allen Thomas of Sykeston, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Darrell, sister Mavis Koenig, brother Merlin Thomas, and son-in-law Lonny Hulm.

Immediately following the service, the family would like you to join them for a time of fellowship and lunch at the church. Following lunch, we will go in procession to the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan
