Edwin Nagel, age 86, of Bismarck, ND passed away Sunday January 27, 2019, at home surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 1, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 6-7 p.m. with Vigil and Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.
Edwin was born July 13, 1932 on a farm near Strasburg, ND, to Elias and Mary (Reinbold) Nagel. Edwin graduated from St. Mary's Central High School in Bismarck in 1950. He was drafted to the US Army during the Korean Conflict and served from 1952-1954.
Edwin married Johanna Richter on November 23, 1955, at St. Hildegard's Church in Menoken, ND. They made their home in Bismarck, where they raised their six children. He worked at Corwin Churchill Motors and Appliances for 18 years and then as a State Farm Insurance agent for 23 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. The Edwin Nagel Family was named the 'North Dakota KC Family of the Year' in 1987 and He was awarded 'Knight of the Year' in 1990. Edwin received the Legion of Honor Award for Dedicated Service to Humanity, Church and Country in 2002, from the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Johanna; two sisters, Whaneta Gerhardt and Arlene Zumkehr; three sons, Edwin Jr. (Gail) Nagel, Richard (Laurette) Nagel, and Timothy Nagel, all of Bismarck; three daughters, Diane (Jim) Nye of Fair Oaks, CA, Bernadette (Chuck) Holzer of Bismarck, and Joanne (Gerard) Mahrer of Mandan; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Theodore and Elias Nagel Jr.; two sisters Lorraine Richter and Mary Ann Seibel; parents-in-law (John and Theresa Richter); six brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; three nieces and two nephews.
