Duane Hruby, 84 passed away at his home surrounded by his family on September 22nd, 2024.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on September 28, 2024, at the Ascension Catholic Church, Bismarck, ND. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck, ND.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 27, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Duane was born in Belfield, ND to Steve and Pearl (Dowhaniuk) Hruby on February 22, 1940. He grew up in that area while helping his family with what he could do. He went and received an 8th grade education at the Regan school. He later received his GED. Duane was the 4th of 12 children born to his parents.
Duane met a young woman in Bismarck named Catherine. They quickly became friends and began to date. They enjoyed meeting each other’s family and friends. Duane popped the question to Catherine and they were married at St. Vincents Catholic Church in Mott, ND on June 17th, 1959. They established and remained to live out their lives in Bismarck, ND.
Duane started working a variety of jobs such as at a Phillips 66 and delivering the Bismarck Tribune, grocery store, janitor skills for a company. He multitasked in what he needed to do to provide for his family. Duane eventually learned to install flooring and then went on his own to establish Duane’s Carpet Service, which he owned until his retirement. He was well known and loved in this industry. He was willing to help anyone.
During Duane and Catherine’s marriage, they welcomed 4 children. Mark (Lori) Hruby, Kent WA, Charles (Connie) Hruby, Stanchfield MN, Pam Treib, Mandan ND, James Hruby, Bismarck ND. Duane is the proud grandfather to: Heather (Hruby) Pipkin, Matthew Hruby, Eric Hruby, Elijah Hruby, Miranda Hruby, Nicolas Hruby, Alexandria Dobbins, Holli Hruby, and April Hruby. Duane also had the pleasure of being a great grandpa to: Aleah Pipkin, Addilyn Hruby, Eloise Hruby, Finn Hruby, Jaxson Hruby, Easton Hruby, Mila Hruby and a great grandson on the way.
Duane throughout his life loved his faith, family and doing works of charity for the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s High School as well as honoring his Ukrainian heritage by participating in the annual festival in Dickinson, ND. Duane was well known for offering to help all of those in need, so to know Duane was to love him.
