Dorothy Ottmar, 101, Bismarck, passed away April 27, 2024.  Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Sylvia Bull officiating.  Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 1 from 5-7pm at the Bismarck Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born on September 15, 1922 in Wishek, ND to Peter & Justina (Warner) Thurn.  She was raised and educated in Wishek and graduated from Wishek High School in 1941.  After graduation, she attended Ellendale Normal and Industrial College.  Dorothy taught rural school for 10 years in Wishek and Ventura areas.  She also worked at Herr’s Supervalue in Wishek.

On June 24, 1951 she married Karl Ottmar.  Dorothy worked on their farm until moving to Bismarck in 1972 and worked as a dietitian and in activities at the Baptist and Missouri Lutheran Slope Care Centers. Dorothy enjoyed painting, drawing, crafts and gardening.  She liked listening to music, reading and church circle.

After retirement, Dorothy and Karl moved to Primrose Assisted Living in Bismarck and after Karl’s passing, she moved to St. Vincent’s Care Center.

She is survived by her son, Dennis (Betty) Ottmar; granddaughter, Michele Ottmar and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; parents, Peter Thurn and Justina Warner; brothers, Ferdinand, Frederick, Otto and Emil; sisters, Adina, Marie (1913-1914), Mary, Frieda and Martha.

The Ottmar family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff of St. Vincent’s Care Center for their extraordinary care to Dorothy.
