DeWayne Jeffrey Olson, husband of Kimberly Bentz, Bismarck, passed away January 27, 2022, at Sanford Medical Center, Bismarck, after a brief, brave and courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home. For those not attending the service will be livestreamed on the Bismarck Facebook page.
DeWayne was born the youngest child of Harold and Rosella Olson on October 30, 1966, in Grafton, ND. The family moved to Devils Lake, ND in 1970 where he was raised and educated in the Devils Lake Public School system, graduating in 1985. DeWayne was an avid boy scout. While taking his hunter safety course he won a “Sharp Shooter” award. During and after high school he worked for Schwan Wholesale. He later went to work for Lake Lumber, Devils Lake. DeWayne got married in 1987 and had two children, Samantha and Jeffrey. He later moved to Bismarck, ND and worked for Conlin’s Furniture. DeWayne met and married the love of his life Kimberly Bentz in 1992. They had a daughter Brandi and son Codi. They moved to Beach, ND briefly where Kimberly obtained her first job in social work. DeWayne attended college in Glendive, MT and Bismarck, ND obtaining a degree in IT. The family then moved back to Bismarck at which time DeWayne obtained a job with Transportation Security Administration, advancing to a TSA instructor up to the time of his death.
DeWayne was very protective of his wife and children. We believe this is why he fought so hard to stay with us to the very end, needing assurance his wife and children would be watched over and cared for through their grief and heavy hearts. He had a great sense of humor loving to play practical jokes on everyone. He especially loved scaring people to hear them laugh! DeWayne loved hunting and fishing. He and Kimberly spent their summers camping and fishing in his boat “Dacious”. He had two beloved chocolate labs they called “the girls” who he trained as his hunting companions. He was a die-hard Patriots fan and an “in the closet” Vikings fan. DeWayne also took great pride in landscaping his yard.
