Bob Offerdahl, age 83, died peacefully in his sleep on August 27, 2024, at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck, ND, after a long struggle with lung disease.
A memorial service will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. The graveside service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Robert Charles Offerdahl was born on January 20, 1941, in St. James, MN, to Pearl and Arden Offerdahl. After graduating from Mankato State College, MN, Bob taught upper elementary students in Rosemount, MN, and served with the Minnesota National Guard. He moved to Bismarck in 1979 and worked as a public relations representative for Harmon Auto Glass Company. After retirement, he worked part time at Dan’s Supermarket and as a players’ assistant at local golf courses. He quietly volunteered for behind-the-scenes jobs and ushered at services for many years at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. He was also a charter member of the North Star Lions Club and spent countless hours volunteering with them. He was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest form of recognition given by his club. Bob loved golfing, the Vikings, and visiting with his family and dear friends. Bob built community wherever he was. His infectious smile, innate sense of care, and curiosity about other people brightened the days and lives of anyone he met.
He is survived by his children, Matthew (Leah), Jessica, and Samantha (Sean); grandchildren, Olivia, Benjamin, Emerson, and Frances; friend and former wife, Diane; and many beloved friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; and older brother, Gerald, by just one week.
A livestream of the service will be available on the Lord of Life Lutheran Church website, https://www.lordoflifebismarck.org/
