Betty Schuetz Staiger, 85, of Mandan, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. Her children were by her side as she drifted of to be with the Lord.
Betty was born on March 26, 1933, to August and Pauline (Herrbold) Sauter. She was raised in the Strasburg and Linton area. She had 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Betty married Elroy Schuetz on June 21, 1953. Together they raised 5 children – Nancy (Bruce) Kindsvogel, Mandan; Randall (Barb) Schuetz, Statesville, NC; Perry (Marilyn) Schuetz, Mandan; Daniel Schuetz, Linton; and Jackie (Ron) Montgomery, Mandan.
Betty held many employment positions throughout her life, but her favorites were being in charge of the dietary department at Heartview Foundation in Mandan, the manager of the Beacon Coffee Shop in Bismarck, and the head cook at Sanford Hospital, Bismarck. Also, she was able to accomplish a goal/dream when she printed her own cookbook. She was so proud when people asked to purchase a cookbook. She was an excellent cook! As a hobby, she decorated cakes for Magic Candles which were always were beautiful. She also enjoyed ceramics.
Betty was a very private person. She worked hard all of her life. She had a feisty “I can do this” attitude about everything.
Elroy Schuetz passed away on March 28, 1997.
Betty married Ruben Staiger on August 22, 2003. Ruben passed away on August 11, 2012.
Betty is survived by her 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one sister, Ilean (Dick) Ellestad, Lewistown, MT, her good friends Donna Fehr and Olivia Huber, and one fluffy white dog – Snowflake.
Betty was preceded in death by Elroy Schuetz, Ruben Staiger, her parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, 2 nephews and 1 niece.
