“If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.”
It is with much sadness, we say good-bye to our beloved wife, mom and grandma. She loved her family so much and it is hard to imagine this world without her. Betty had a way of making everyone feel special, especially her family.
Betty Anne Gipson, 88, passed away at the Baptist Home, surrounded by her family, in Bismarck, ND on February 01, 2024.
Betty was born to Ralph and Doris (Cottet) Newcomer on November 04, 1935 at the Ainsworth Hospital in Ainsworth, Nebraska. Betty spent the first nine years of her life living with her parents on the family farm near Long Pine, NE. In the fall of 1944 her family moved into Long Pine. Betty graduated from Long Pine High School in May 1953.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Keith Gipson, on December 27, 1952 at Valley, NE. Betty and Keith first met and danced together at a community dance in Long Pine, NE when she was twelve and he was fourteen. Two daughters, Katherine and Susan, were born to this union. Betty worked for the Tempo Store, KG Men’s Store, and the Census Bureau with her last employment being at the Bismarck American Legion Club as office manager. Betty retired from working outside of the home in December 1982 so she could spend time with her two new granddaughters.
Betty was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, having joined in 1957. Betty held many offices in the auxiliary, including Unit President of Unit No. 1 in Bismarck. The last office she held for many years was Unit Treasure. Betty worked untiringly to provide for her family’s comfort and well being. She was a great cook and having a meal at mom’s or grandmother’s place was a real treat. Betty was a wonderful seamstress. She made special outfits for her granddaughter’s figure skating competition, formals for her granddaughters’ proms, and countless blankets for every occasion. Betty and Keith spent many warm winters in Texas, the first being in 1994. Betty loved her family dearly and there was nothing she would not do for them.
