Arthur W. Holsti, 91, passed away in a Bismarck care center on March 30, 2019. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck.
Family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arthur was born on October 25, 1927 to Emil and Helmi (Mauna) Holsti, in rural Braddock, ND. He was the 5th of eight children. He served in the US Army from 1950-1952. Following his time in the service he returned home to farm until 1965. He was the township treasurer 1955-1965, soil conservation supervisor from 1960-1965 and Past Master of Linton Masonic Lodge 1962-1963.
Arthur married Irene (Schwab) Holsti, July 2, 1965. He worked for the city of Bismarck. They then moved to Killdeer and he worked for USDA Soil Conservation Service. In 1970 he moved back to Bismarck and continued working for the soil conservation service. He also worked as a service manager for Iten Pontiac, the ND State Regulatory and Hedahls Auto Parts until he retired in 1988.
In 1981 he married Leocadia “Peggy” Kelsch in Bismarck. In retirement he did volunteer work and had many hobbies.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Leocadia “Peggy”, his step-children: Kathy (Terry) Morton, Ken Holsti, Patricia Esterberg, William (Mary) Kelsch, John (Laura) Kelsch, Theresa (Dave) Gobble, Francella Kraft, Marvin (Maria) Kelsch and Kevin (Teresa) Kelsch; step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: August, Lauri, Howard, Verner and Wilbur; sisters: Selma Anderson and Mildred Isata.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Camp of the Cross, 1228 47th Ave NW, Garrison, ND, 58540 or Faith Lutheran Church.
