Mae Teske


Mae Teske, born Mabel Lorraine Schaper, 98, went home to be with the Lord on May 22, 2024.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 29 from 5-7 p.m. at the Bismarck Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.

Mae was born in Halliday, ND on November 20,1925, to Henry and Katherina Schaper. She grew up on the family farm north of Halliday. Mae was baptized on January 10, 1926, confirmed at the age of 12, and began a lifetime involvement with her church teaching Sunday School, Bible School, a Luther League Advisor, directing junior choir, and singing in the adult church choir. She completed eighth grade at a country school, unable to attend high school due to responsibilities on the family farm.  Mae worked at various cafes and did childcare in Halliday.

Mae and her siblings enjoyed playing musical instruments, singing for funerals, dances, and area businesses. Mae married Bernie Teske on August 12,1952. They loved the Lord, dancing, singing, traveling, games, and were loyal to family. Their travels took them to all 50 states and to Israel.

Mae owned & operated the A&T Drive-In, Hazen, for 10 years. She volunteered at the Hazen Memorial Hospital for over 20 years, was a member & officer in the Gideons Association and sang in the Hazen Christmas Chorale for 26 years.  Mae’s entire life was characterized by her commitment to the Lord, family, and the faith community. She displayed self-control, self-discipline, and strove for excellence in all things.

The Lord surely greeted her this way, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Mae is survived by her children: Denise (Jerry) Hauff, Bismarck, Carla (Barry) Morast, Hazen, Neva (PJ) Weninger Hazen, grandchildren: Logan (Hannah) Hauff, Keenan (Hannah) Hauff, Caleb (Ashton) Hauff, Kelsey (Sam) Fink, McKayla Glasser, Seth (Carly, fiancee) Glasser, great-grandchildren: Eden, Grace, Adam Hauff, Emmylou, Eli, Abel, Flannery, Cyrus Fink, Ellouise Hauff, and Avora Hauff; siblings Vera Barfield, Clara Goetz, and Willie Schaper

Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Teske; her parents; 9 brothers and sisters.
