I had the honor of having Coach Haug as my sophmore Basketball coach 1974. I must admit that at that time I was scared of him, I admired him because even though he demanded a great deal of his athletes, he demanded more of himself. As a coach, I used his favorite “exercise” for me the wall sit! God bless you coach! You have always won and will continue to do so in your new adventure.

Mr. Haug was, without a doubt, the best teacher I ever had. His ability to pass on a true understanding and appreciation for all aspects of Mathematics was life changing and influencing for me. Heaven has gained a great man.

What to say about such a fantastic man! He was so so special. I credit him for helping me have success in my years at Mary in basketball, playing noon ball and dragging me up the Tom O hill. My heart is broken for all of you, even though we know he is in a much better place. I am privileged to have had him be a part of my life. I will miss his smile and plate scrapping skills at the carnival! God Bless him and all of you!

Coach Haug was absolutely MY IDOL !! I loved that man and wanted to be like him. He taught me a ton, he mentored me, we always had a unique relationship ever since I was a freshman at SMCHS. It seemed that Fr. Becwar and Coach Haug usually kinda went out of their way to give me the "business". Teasing, bantering, even up to his last 2 days. I am SO going to miss him but I know for a fact in faith, I will see him again because I know where he is !! Love and Prayers for Coach and Sue !! "Go Irish" ! Only because I Love You.

Wow what a beautifully written memorial. It made me smile, especially the chalk reference. I have so many memories: he tried to send me to the principal’s office because I wore knickers to school or because I wouldn’t pick up my feet when I wore cowboy boots to school. He used to drop his head down shaking it and then look at me. He so often left me awestruck with his math brilliance. All I can say to the Haug family is thank you for sharing him with all of us. May God’s strength get you through this.

Roger was great. We loved getting quotes from him when I was a sportswriter at the Bismarck Tribune because he always told it like it was. No mincing words. But the funniest scene I encountered with Roger was after a basketball game -- I can't remember if it was a girls game and the coach was Steve Meier or a boys game and the coach was Dick Limke -- but I was talking with the coach and there was Roger, sweeping the floors. I couldn't believe it. I think I said, "What? He sweeps the floors, too?" and the coach said something like, "Yeah, he does everything here." I'm sure he's not sweeping floors in heaven now ... unless he wants to. To his family, may God be with you during this time of mourning.

I'm saddened to read of Rog's death. But his assignment here on earth is completed and now it's on to better things. I was secretary at SMCHS and Rog was a great teacher and coach. Rest in peace Roger, you have certainly earned it. Bless your wife and family.

I had Roger for a statistics class at University of Mary during their championship title run and he was a class act. He was an outstanding instructor as well as a coach and a human being. RIP Roger, you lived a full life and condolences to his family and friends.

Roger was a great coach, period! Hearing his name as an assistant football coach prior to St. Mary's championship game this past year, was inspiring! My daughter played against Roger teams at Mary and I played and coached against Roger when at Minot High School. A true competitor with the heart of a champion that made a great impression upon me! He will be missed! Dale Olson and Ali Olson Clemenson

Sue and family, our prayers are with you. First getting to know Roger and you as neighbors to my parents, and then Roger as coach and teacher when Ron came to St. Mary's. What an opportunity that gave Ron and our family to be back in Bismarck and to be able to access medical and educational opportunities for our son. We were so fortunate to be on the receiving end of Roger's commitment to helping others become the best they could be. Sincerest condolences to you and your family. Debbie and Ron Yeager

I can say I had an effect on the life of Roger Haug from 1972 to 1975 but Roger Haug had an impact on my life from 1972 to present. Although he is gone, Roger’s impact is far from over.

Sue ... My memories of both you & Roger are very positive. I had Roger with 4 years of math back in the 1960s as a student. His "'The rest is obvious' quote was a real hoot" I also have worthwhile memories of being a young "wipper-snapper free lancing" coach of SMCHS tennis with his capable supervision back in 1975. May the Lord & the angels be kind to him as he was to so many while he was on earth.

So sad to hear of Roger’s passing. Hank and I are Dickinson high school classmates of Rogers’s. Roger sat behind me in geometry class. Had it not been for Roger’s patient math tutorials I would certainly have had to repeat the class. Thanks Roger. May God hold the Haug family in His arms

It is always a sad day when someone who is so much a part of the fabric of an institution leaves us. Simply, Roger Haug was St. Mary's Central High School and all that she ascribes to be. I have never forgotten the kindness he showed me and the wisdom he gave me during my time at SMCHS. He always did what was needed in all areas of his life..."even as principal". I have worked with many people in my life in schools, but there have not been many as great as Roger. My heart is broken. God's speed good and faithful servant. BF

I am very sorry for your loss . Losing a loved one in death is such a difficult thing to experience . Please be comforted by the promises in the Bible . Jesus tells us at John 5 : 28 , 29 that all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out . What a loving provision put in place by the God of all comfort so we can have the assured hope of seeing our dead loved ones live again one day . Meanwhile as I pray for that day to come I ask Jehovah God to bless your family and give each of you the strength to endure this most trying time . For more information please visit .

My brother Kerry said it well. Mr. Haug always drilled common sense into his students. Never will forget the best math teacher ever. RIP Roger Haug.
