Florence Ternes, 93, Bismarck, passed away January 18, 2020 at St. Gabriel’s Community Center.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 23rd at Ascension Catholic Church, Bismarck.  There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service.  Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 24th at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Florence was born October 18th, 1926, in Strasburg, ND, the daughter of Romanus and Theresia Schreiner.  Florence grew up on a farm 15 miles southwest of Strasburg where many memories were made with family and friends.  She met the love of her life, Otto Ternes, and married in 1946.  Together they started their life in Strasburg.  They lived a short time in Kansas City, MO but moved back to Strasburg for 2 years before calling Minot home where they raised 2 children, Darlene (Reinarts) and Dan.

Florence was an amazing lady that gave of herself to so many.  She had the kindest heart and the most graceful soul.  Her faith and dedication to the Catholic Church was so strong.  Florence had enough rosaries for the whole church.

She was an unbelievable cook and baker.  Like any farm raised German, she always made enough food to feed the whole town.  Florence had a knack for making specialty breads and kuchen. Many loved receiving her Christmas goodies.  She worked at Little Flower School and Bishop Ryan High school as a school cook.  No recipe was ever used as her passion for cooking was complemented by taste and smell.  Florence’s recipe for Red Eye is one that no one can replicate.  Florence was your go to lady to satisfy any North Dakota wedding “red eye room.”

Florence liked to entertain.  Whether it was at her home or at her cabin at Rice Lake memories were always being made over great food and a cold beer.

Florence had a love like no other for her grandchildren.  Many memories were made, and they will forever be cherished.

She was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Those Who Shared In Her Life:  Florence is survived by daughter Darlene (Bruce) Reinarts, Bismarck; son Dan (Jean) Ternes, Minot; grandchildren, Brian (Tiffany) Reinarts, Fargo; Brent (Angela) Reinarts, Fargo; Sarah (Carlyle) Scott, Bismarck; Justin (Fiance Emily Broud) Ternes, Minot; Megan Ternes, Minot; great-grandchildren, Keaira Reinarts, Krew Reinarts, Owen Reinarts, Norah Reinarts, Quinn Reinarts (West Fargo), Truitt and Taves Scott (Bismarck).  Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Otto and brothers William and Herman.
