Don C. Prouty, 81, Bismarck, died at home on October 22, 2019 from the rare heart disease, Cardiac Amyloidosis. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck.

Don had a wonderful life! He was a loving husband to Bernie for 61 years. He was a caring father to Danell (Joe) Becker, Sue (Curt) Coleman and Lynn (Wayne) Pruce. He was a devoted, fun loving grandfather to Jess (Ryan) Pettingill, Curt Becker, Justin (Yedid) Becker, Andrea (Shane) VanPatten and Kristen (Josh) Roehrich.

Don was a true friend and positive influence on many people. He was an amazing athlete in high school and college and an avid golfer. He was a great teacher, coach and elementary school principal. The highlight of his career he said was working with mentally and physically challenged students. He believed that “All students, regardless of their abilities, deserve to have rights and opportunities.”

He was a charter member of the Church of Corpus Christi and a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 1199. Don and Bernie founded Don’s Driving School in 1970 and Don was an instructor for nearly 50 years.

Grass did not grow under his feet. He juggled all his roles with grace and dignity. A teacher to the end, his body goes to the University of North Dakota School of Medicine.

Don is also survived by his sister, Sandy (Elmer) Amsden; sister-in-law, Donna Frohlich; brother-in-law, Tony Wangler; and great-grandchildren: Tyce, Zoe and Izzy Roehrich, Olivia Pettingill, George and James VanPatten, Emma Becker and Sophia Becker.
