Clarence was born to Fred and Anna (Moos) Veitz on January 17, 1936, on a farmstead in New Leipzig, ND. After graduating from New Leipzig High School in 1955, he decided to help his brothers run the gas station in Elgin, ND.

Alverna was born to Jacob & Magdalena (Schock) Wolf on October 9, 1936, on a farmstead in Elgin. Alverna graduated from Elgin High School in 1954 and went on to continue her education at Dickinson State College. BOOM, guess what, that is where she met the love of her life, Clarence. She always stopped to fill gas while Clarence was working.

They were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Elgin on Wednesday October 2, 1957. Since Clarence had to work on Thursday, that was the best they could do.

After their marriage they resided in Elgin, where they had two beautiful children who will love them forever. Brian Lee born on July 14, 1959, and then little Berdene Leigh that fit into a shoebox on August 8, 1965.

As a family we spent a lot of time together working family type jobs of whether it was maintenance work at the local cemetery mowing or going to Heart Butte Lake – Lake Tschida and enjoying the great outdoors.

Clarence and Alverna are survived by their children, Brian (Carrie) and Berdene (Stuart) Ivesdal; grandchildren, Jessica (Mark) Thorson, Jeannine Veitz, Chantal (Brant) Weisenburger, Brandon (Caitlin) Veitz and their children Kieran & Blair and baby Collin on the way, and Jacey (AJ) Chmielewski and their daughter, Cora.

Clarence is survived by sister, Esther Kuehn, New Salem; brother, Vernon, Mandan; sisters-in-law, Violet, Bismarck and Judy, Hettinger. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister-in-law, Walter, Rudy, Harlan (Jeannette), brother-in-law, Simon Kuehn; and sister-in-law, Ardella Veitz.

Alverna is survived by brother, Rudy (Mary) Wolf, Bismarck and sister-in-law, Sharron Wolf, Detroit Lakes, MN, brother -in-law, James Ulrich, Bismarck, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine (Paul) Weikum, Leona Ulrich, Delores (Mienhardt) Bader, Bernice (Lewis) Thompson, Bernetta (Clarence) Tietz, Luella (Richard) Baesler, Darlene (Robert) Nagel, Jacob Wolf, Jr., one infant daughter, Claudia and one stillborn brother, Baby Wolf.

In lieu of flowers family requests donations to the Rochester MN Ronald McDonald House in memory of Clarence and Alverna Veitz, great grandparents of Kieran Veitz.  Due to allergy sensitivity, please refrain from ordering any lilies.

We will always cherish the family times we had together,

rest easy Mom & Dad – Grandma & Grandpa……

We love you forever, until we meet again.

Clarence and Alverna lived across the yard from me. Our little dog would run over whenever Clarence was out side and I’d have to go get him. We had many nice talks over the years, I planted rubard just for them. He shared many stories about his years on the farm and other places where he worked. He reminded me of my father and the attitude and belief’s they shared. Great people, I will miss them a lot, Ton Rothacker.

I remember them coming in when I was the manager at Cary’s Kitchen. They were always fun to talk with. Years later I ran into Clarence when he was working up at Menards and we had a short chat and laughed a lot just like the old days. They were a great couple and will be missed by many. RIP
