Wayne was born on March 4, 1960 in Minot, ND to Eugene & Alvilda Unruh. He grew up in Bismarck and graduated Century High School, the Class of 1978. Then he went to NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND for college and went to many Bison games at Dakota Field in Fargo.
Wayne met the love of his life, Mei on a trip to China. They then married in the US in 1993. His daughter Jessica, his pride and joy, was born in July of 1996.
Wayne worked in the elevator trade. He serviced elevators for many years in North Dakota. He then retired from Local 9 and became one of the state elevator inspectors of Minnesota.
He was also a loyal Lion member and started the youth program at St. Mary’s High School. When his daughter went off to college at NDSU, Wayne rekindled his love for Bison football. He attended all local games and became a loving member of the Van Club at tailgating. He then created a mobilized bison to ride around and often brought it to tailgating. He was dedicated and well loved by his Bison family.
“When a lone Bison is looking for a Herd, I could not have found a better Herd to belong. The dedication of the Van Club, you learn, I do not want to let the Herd down. I stand with the Bison beside me, in front of me, behind me. The strength of the Herd is the Bison. The strength of the Bison is the Herd. When you learn from the best. You become who you hang with.” – Wayne Unruh
Wayne leaves the love of his life, Mei Unruh, his daughter, Jessica, his step-dad, Ray Pfieffer, and all those that loved and cared for him.
He was preceded in death by his father Eugene Unruh and mother Alvilda Unruh-Pfieffer.
